You’ll stop people dead in their tracks

The North face clothing line has always been about serious performance with casual good looks, and this North Face Apex Bionic Mens jacket is no different. Using subtle and understated color schemes, patterns, and more casual look and fit, you’ll have no trouble blending in when you step outside your new jacket. While this might not seem like a major and serious benefit too many people new to the outdoor scene, if you’ve ever worn one of your more function over form jackets in the past you know that we are looks and strange comments that people like to make. If you don’t want to be confused with Sir Edmund Hillary and like to enjoy your coffee without being stared at from everyone in the building, and this is the jacket to invest in. Any attention that you do draw from civilians out and about will almost always be to complement you on how good the jacket looks. You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who was in a fellow outdoors person to understand that you’re actually wearing a piece of equipment designed for high performance and not another fashion forward item that you snatched off the rack.

Designed for performance

Using their specially designed new climate block material, North Face Apex Bionic Mens jacket is as close to a windproof and water resistant material as you find in a casual and three season jacket. While not nearly as warm as a down jacket or as waterproof as a dedicated range shell, this is more than enough to get you through some rainy days and some chilly nights. Everything about the jacket is kept quite simple, including the two hand pockets and a chest pocket. Definitely built for function and not super flashy, they don’t attract attention and are actually quite useful. While you would be hard-pressed not to notice immediately other high-performance outer shells for what they are, this is an understated look that hides incredible performance.

Really, really weird cuffs

There is a minor detraction though, and even while this jacket is as close to perfect as you get when you’re looking for something for lighter weather, the cuffs on this jacket are pretty odd. Having a strange Velcro and hook system for closing the cuffs, it’s almost an unusable feature on an otherwise perfect jacket. It also comes in clocking over 25 ounces, so won’t be an ultralights best friend. More the hybrid jacket as you probably would want use this on a multi-day or week long trip either, this is more for the casual walkabout or daytrip.
